Suburb Profiles
Overview
Burpengary (Post Code 4505)
In the viscinity of North Lakes and Caboolture, north of Brisbane, another suburb that sits in the renowned Moreton Bay Region is Burpengary.
Location
Family-friendly and fast growing yet peaceful, it’s strategic location half way between Brisbane (37 kms away) and the Sunshine Coast lends itself to making Burpengary the ideal place to live. In fact, founded as a large truck-stop “back in the day” for that same reason, it still boasts today a functional truck weigh-bridge.
Name origins
Derived from the aboriginal word Burpengar, meaning ‘the place of the green wattle tree’, Burpengary retains a country feel with many properties with acreage to be found.
The east, however, houses the inevitable newer estates and precincts resulting from urban sprawl and Queensland’s evergreen popularity. Yet, these newer areas provide housing options for many.
The 2016 Census states the population at 14,022 with a median age of 37 years.
Amenities
Swimming and fitness
Burpengary Regional Aquatic and Leisure Centre is an absolute gem for people who live in this area. Touted as a state of the art facility with three heated pools, a large shaded outdoor leisure area including a lagoon pool complete with a beach entrance and more. The lagoon has a water feature, sun lounges, gazebos and the Centre is open all year around.
There is even more fun to be had on the grounds, with a café, BBQs, tennis courts and a playground! Literally – something for everyone.
Environmental jewel
The Caboolture Region Environmental Education Centre (CREEC) offers environmental education and recreation for the community. It backs onto the Burpengary River and is located on an 18 hectare site. The CREEC website features a downloadable walking map so visitors can take a guided walk through endangered rainforest and acacia woodlands. Definitely worth a visit if you enjoy nature pursuits – and walking! (But sorry – no dogs, being a nature reserve)
There’s also a community nursery, a very cool playground that suits all abilities and the all important café!
Library facilities
The very attractive, and accessible, Burpengary Library is a great facility for locals. People visit not just for the books and literature, but also various activities. These include Lego sessions, craft activities and a delightful story-time.
Be sure to check out the virtual tour available online to check out the Library!
Education
There are various options to choose from in the Burpengary area.
Burpengary State Primary School (prep to 6 girls/boys) and Burpengary State Secondary School (years 7 to 12 girls/boys) provide public education for the community.
St Eugene’s College provides Catholic based Primary and Secondary education from prep to year 12 for both girls and boys.
Redwood College provides distant education for students from prep to year 12 and has plans to open a day school soon.
Transport
Train services
The Burpengary train station sits on the North Coast Line with services to Brisbane and Ipswich, Caboolture and the Sunshine Coast. There are Commuter car parks on both sides of the station complete with accessible parking. Bike storage is also provided and a “kiss n ride” drop off zone is particularly convenient.
Bus services
Kangaroo Bus Lines provides public transport daily along with servicing school bus routes. Fun Fact: Kangaroo Bus Lines is a family owned and operated business headquartered in Burpengary. The business has been continuously operating for over 40 years and is still experiencing growth and demand for services. Services are many and varied and at the time of writing they are recruiting for drivers!
It is transport services like these – and business success stories like this – that underpin an area’s suitability for considering as a property investment area. For the tenants, the amenities and transport services simply make it a great place to live.
Recreation
Parks
Buchanan Park is well-treed and adjacent to Burpengary Creek with play equipment, shelter shed and BBQ.
Symphony Crescent Park is an all-day destination with a lot to do! Toddlers to teenagers will enjoy this spacious park. It has a ninja warrior course, playground, basketball court, green space and bike paths.
The aforementioned Caboolture Region Environmental Educational Centre (CREEC) has a playground which includes specifically engineered play equipment to allow children with physical limitations to play alongside their peers – both the boisterous and the introverts!
