History

Before European settlement, the people of the Quandamooka inhabited Redlands. Here the food was abundant, due to the highly skilled hunters and fisherman. At the time, it was referred to as the Koobenpul.

In the early 1800’s, Wellington Point was so named by a surveyor inspired by the Duke of Wellington who led the British in the Battle of Waterloo in 1842.

During this time early European settlers moved in. So the land began to be divided and sold off to those wishing to make it their permanent home. The late 1800’s saw a boom in property sales and amenities being built. One of the main reasons for this boom was to do with the newly built railway line. The Cleveland line would now stop at Wellington Point, which allowed for easier access to the area. This homely suburb has only increased in popularity since. Especially so since 1960’s, which saw the addition of a chemist, doctor’s clinic, grocery stores, take-away shops and small boutiques. And town water arrived in 1969!

Transport

Due to the addition of the Cleveland line in the late 1800’s, Wellington Point is accessible via Queensland Rail. Wellington Point is roughly a 20-30 minute train ride to the CBD.

Amenities

Wellington Point is a self-contained suburb. It has grocery stores, take-away locations, chemists, doctors and apparel stores.
