Housing Styles and Demographics
Wellington Point is largely made up of beach style Queenslander homes and lowset brick homes. There has been an increase in interest towards this bayside suburb in recent years. So this has seen a shift towards more modern style homes and apartment complexes. Furthermore, the variety of property types serves to accommodate a number of different demographics and price points.
The median age of residents in Wellington Point is 39 years, which is 2 years above the national average.
Before European settlement, the people of the Quandamooka inhabited Redlands. Here the food was abundant, due to the highly skilled hunters and fisherman. At the time, it was referred to as the Koobenpul.
In the early 1800’s, Wellington Point was so named by a surveyor inspired by the Duke of Wellington who led the British in the Battle of Waterloo in 1842.
During this time early European settlers moved in. So the land began to be divided and sold off to those wishing to make it their permanent home. The late 1800’s saw a boom in property sales and amenities being built. One of the main reasons for this boom was to do with the newly built railway line. The Cleveland line would now stop at Wellington Point, which allowed for easier access to the area. This homely suburb has only increased in popularity since. Especially so since 1960’s, which saw the addition of a chemist, doctor’s clinic, grocery stores, take-away shops and small boutiques. And town water arrived in 1969!
Due to the addition of the Cleveland line in the late 1800’s, Wellington Point is accessible via Queensland Rail. Wellington Point is roughly a 20-30 minute train ride to the CBD.
Wellington Point is a self-contained suburb. It has grocery stores, take-away locations, chemists, doctors and apparel stores.
There are several schools to choose from. These include Redlands College, Wellington Point State High School and Wellington Point State School. All of which have been listed as high performing schools.
There is also access to King Island and Moreton Bay. Moreton Bay sports a number of water activities, from kayaking to jet-sking. So these activities mean it is especially popular with families and young professionals who love to keep active.
