History

Clayfield received its name from the fine white-grey sedimentary clay mined in Albion. The clay was used in the brickworks that once existed near Sandgate Road. Known as ‘the clay fields’, this drove a residential surge in inner-north Brisbane.

Public Transport

Until 1969, Clayfield was one of the suburbs serviced by Brisbane’s electric tram line. These days, Clayfield has a number of bus and train services. The services operate from the Clayfield railway station and Eagle Junction railway station. There is a small Translink bus hub at Toombul Shopping Centre that also provides a number of bus services.

Stores and Amenities

Clayfield has a number of stores and amenities throughout. However, the primary concentration will be found on Sandgate Road which passes through. Nearby, there is also Toombul Shopping Centre, DFO Brisbane for outlet shopping, and a 24 hour Woolworths.
