Property Management Cannon Hill

Most likely named after Cannon Hill House, a residence once located on Wynnum Road, Cannon Hill is located 10.4 kilometres east of the Brisbane CBD. Situated next to Carina, Morningside, Murarrie, and Tingalpa, this suburb allows great convenience for residents.  It has easy access to the CBD, local schools, shops and the Brisbane International and Domestic Airports.

Young families love the near-to-near homes being built, and the history of those older Queensland style properties still found today.

As Brisbane property managers just next door in Camp Hill since 2001, we know Cannon Hill and the surrounding areas quite well.

Housing Styles and Demographics

Cannon Hill is going through quite a transition with a lot of exciting developments for shopping and entertainment. There are several new and historic Queenslander properties to be found.  These are perfect for young families, or even older couples. In the 2016 Census, the median age of people living in Cannon Hill was 34 years.

Some residents describe Cannon Hill being like a country town just outside a city.  This is because it has close proximity to Brisbane City, but with a pleasant family orientated community. While most properties are stand-alone, new developments are bringing more apartment living options to the area.

History

Cannon Hill, the suburb, was established in 1867.  This is the same time Cannon Hill House was constructed, before it burnt down in 1927.  The owner of the house, Thornhill Weedon, called it Cannon Hill House because of two fallen trees which resembled a cannon.

The Cleveland railway line opened in 1889 and went through Cannon Hill. The next notable addition to the suburb was Cannon Hill State School in 1915, and is one of the main Heritage listings for the area.

In 1931, the sale yards for Brisbane’s livestock were relocated from Newmarket to Cannon Hill.

Since then the area has transformed adding St Oliver Plunkett School, and Cannon Hill Anglican College, and many shops and restaurants.

Public Transport

Cannon Hill was a key area for livestock and the early Cleveland railway line.  As such, it has always been well connected to the rest of Brisbane. The Cannon Hill railway station provides express services to the Brisbane CBD and Cleveland.

Meanwhile, if you’re catching a bus, the Cannon Hill bus station is a major interchange.  It has many bus routes connecting the suburb to the Brisbane CBD, Chermside, Carindale and Skygate Airport Drive.

Stores and Amenities

Cannon Hill home to great local shops, cafes and restaurants.  It is also home to two major shopping centres – the Cannon Hill Shopping Plaza, and Urban Village Cannon Hill.

Due to the great public transport, other major shopping centres are easily accessible.  Westfield Carindale and Westfield Chermside are also easily reached.
