Carina
This area, developed in the 1940s, was named after Kate Carina, the daughter of early settler Ebenezer Thorne. Carina is around 7.5 km from the centre of Brisbane and many of the homes are of weatherboard or the older Queenslander style, with wide roofed verandas providing wonderful shade in outdoor living areas. Almost 78% of all dwellings in the suburb of Carina are stand alone houses, while townhouses account for 18% of homes. 41% of homes are occupied by couples with children and 18% are occupied by single parent families. Little vacant land remains in Carina for either commercial, retail or residential development.

The Clem Jones Sports Centre is located on the corner of Stanley and Creek Roads. This fabulous fitness and sports facility was founded by the former Lord Mayor of Brisbane, the late Clem Jones. The building includes a gym, basketball court, swimming pools and many other sport and fitness amenities. The annual Crackerjack Carnival is also hosted at the Clem Jones Sports Centre, an event that is greatly enjoyed by local residents and visitors to Carina.
Carina Primary, Mayfield Primary and San Sisto College and a good selection of other government and private schools are available in Carina and its neighbouring suburbs. Further studies can be taken up at the Griffith University, about 20 minutes drive away.
A fine array of fitness and health clubs can be found in Carina, and local residents also participate in a variety of sports and special interest clubs like the Hockey Club, the Investors club and Police Citizens Youth Clubs. Information resources are readily available at the local Carina Library and residents enjoy easy access to other parts of the city via public transport from the bus depot in Creek Road or nearby Cannon Hill Railway Station, as well as a slightly longer journey driving along the major arterial route of Old Cleveland Road.
